My Birthday

We arrived here in London last night after two Iberia flights, flying first from Lanzarote to Madrid and then onto Heathrow. We took the Airport Hoppa bus from Terminal three, (8 GBP per person for the return journey), to our hotel, Jurys Inn, located at Terminal five. Having used this hotel before, I feel that it is good value, offering clean rooms and a B&B tariff. The buffet breakfast this morning was adequate and you can sit by the window and watch the 747´s glide into land.

Our bus journey back to Terminal three this morning this gave us the pleasure of meeting the driver, Juan, who though of Spanish origin, now speaks English with a London accent addressing me as ´Love´and Dani (should he have been spoken to) no doubt as ´geezer´:-) The journey takes you along the road running parallel to the runway meaning that we got our first look at the Singapore Airlines A380 ´double decker super plane´ that we will be flying to Singapore on later tonight.

Somehow I thought it would be bigger, but really it looks like a 747 Jumbo jet with additional seats running along the back of the upper deck first class section, mind you, on closer inspection from the window later I might change my mind. It took of quickly and smoothly as we watched.

We managed to check in our luggage with the helpful Singapore Airlines staff on arrival at 11.45am even though our flight tonight isn´t until 10pm!

As always, the departure lounge is a mishmash of races, colours, fashions and expressions…..some people trying to sleep in positions that would make contortionists eyes water and others sleeping with their chins resting on their chests, I can only imagine severe neck ache on awakening!  Others are reading, sipping coffee or, like me, watching the world go by. Well, we have another 6 hours before boarding so, having stocked up on books, we will no doubt walk the departure lounge ´circuit´ again before hopefully finding out if the ´pub´here is showing the rugby match this afternoon!  Until a further update later then…….

Happy Birthday! That looks like a serious party – somewhere. Der Weg ist das Ziel, oder so. Alles gute aus Deathmold!

Mel Says:

Hey both – there safe and sound?

Dani Says:

@Holger
Genau das ist das Motto ab Heute. Auto, Karte (ok, GPS ist das ja heutzutage) und dann immer gerade aus :-)

@Mel
We’re both safe and at least Andrea is sound as well. I’m feeling that I’m still a bit struggling… but I’m almost 40 so maybe that’s the reason ;-)

Andrea Says:
